Steven E. Mortrude, P.E. Principal / Co-Owner / Senior Structural Engineer
Steven Mortrude is a professional structural engineer registered in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Wisconsin. His more than 18 years of progressive and practical experience in the field of structural engineering is bolstered by seven years experience as a structural draftsman.
While working as a draftsman for Centennial Structural Engineers in Boston and for Sumner Schein in Cambridge, MA, Mr. Mortrude pursued an education in engineering. He graduated from Franklin Institute of Boston with an Associate in Architectural Engineering degree in 1983, transferred to Northeastern University in Boston, and graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1991.
Mr. Mortrude began his engineering career in Green Bay, WI, as an engineer with Brander Construction Technology specializing in forensic engineering and new construction design for 3 years. Next, he worked as a design engineer for Flad & Associates in Madison, WI, for 8 years and then for GMA Engineers, also in Madison, for 1 ½ years. Mr. Mortrude was employed as the Chief Structural Engineer and Structural Department Head for Northeast Engineers & Consultants, Inc., in Middletown, RI. Mr. Mortrude started the structural engineering firm Aquidneck Consulting Engineers, LLC with Mr. Hancher in 2004.
Throughout his career, Mr. Mortrude has had responsibility for the design and analysis of a wide variety of structural projects, ranging from simple wood-framed decks to complex foundations and multi-story steel framed office buildings. He has practical design experience with wood, steel, masonry, concrete, and composite materials, including polymer reinforcements.
| Douglas G. Hancher, P.E. Principal / Co-Owner / Senior Civil Engineer
Douglas Hancher has been a structural engineer since 2002. After graduating in 1979 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a minor in Architecture from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute, Mr. Hancher was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. Retiring in 2001 as a Commander after 22 years service as a Surface Warfare Officer, strategist, and university professor with 10 medals and 4 ribbons, Mr. Hancher completed an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a concentration in structures in May, 2003. His research project focused on wind load analysis and design techniques, making him one of the foremost wind load resistant design engineers in the region.
In June 2002, Mr. Hancher began employment with Northeast Engineers & Consultants, Inc., in Middletown, RI. His work on numerous projects includes wind load resistant analysis and design, site investigations, wood and steel structural framing design, conventional and coastal foundation design, sheetpile and retaining wall design, forensic structural deficiency investigations, and Coastal Resource Management Council (CRMC) permitting for coastal construction.
